bonjour l'automne...

Autumn is perfect walking weather and one of our favourite places to walk is near Chateau Bridoire with its lovely old trees and lots of Autumn leaves. If only the trees could talk, what an interesting tale they could tell.....

the vendange has commenced...

It is our favourite time of the year here in SW France. The harvest season has begun and the local supermarkets are currently holding their foire aux vins which means that you can pick up some good quality wines at great prices.

For those of you that want to learn about the fabulous wines, this region produces, a tour with the Bergerac Wine Tours is a "must do". You will find more information here.

In keeping with this wine theme, we are offering all guests who make a booking this month via our website, a complimentary bottle of award winning wine from one of our favourite vineyards in Bordeaux.

Maison No.26 bedroom

Recent guests advised that they were surprised at the size of the bedroom in Maison No. 26. It is on the large site and rather difficult to photograph.

Hopefully this new photo gives you an indication of just how big the bedroom is.

Also a reminder that we have a page on facebook which is updated regularly with details on what is on and you can also find details of any special offers there.

An addition to the Maison No. 20 family...

At the beginning of 2014 we had the opportunity to purchase an adjoining maison.

Maison No.26  was in a sorry state and required new everything including roof, windows, doors, plumbing, electrics and the list goes on.

Almost a year later, Maison No.26 is open for business.

A self-contained, French love nest perfect for deux or a small family, complete with:

  • stylish kitchen equipped with SMEG appliances,
  • cosy and luxurious lounge with it's own fully stocked DVD and book library,
  • extra large Louis XVI style bedroom with a super king sized bed and the pièce de résistance..
  • a fabulous and very luxurious bathroom; featuring a huge claw foot bath big enough for two, separate toilet and a walk in rain shower, which really has the "wow' factor.
N°26 is "child friendly" and features a mezzanine sleeping and play area with 2 single beds. You will find essential baby items in the house.

Please contact us for further details and availability.

coming to Eymet May 2014

Bonjour mes belles,

I hope that you are having a good weekend. I am popping a few dates in the diary and this is one worth sharing for anyone planning a trip to Eymet in May.

His name is Mathieu Borè and he is a fabulous jazz singer and he is coming to Eymet as part of the Maquiz'Art Winter Jazz Programme, a big merci to French Boyfriend's cousins; Laurent & Suzanne, who put so much work into organizing these fabulous concerts which really do brighten up a chilly Winter's night and fortunately the venue is only a hop, skip and jump from maison no.20.

You can listen to him here.

très bon week-end à tous, Leeann x

Merci to the rough guide

What a lovely surprise to find out that we have been included in the latest Rough Guide to the Dordogne & Lot.

This year the priority is given to drama and humour with two shows which had high success last season in Paris.
Wednesday 24 th: Programme not set yet.
Thursday 25th: Castle courtyard in Eymet, 9.30 pm - Cahin Caha by Serge Valetti
Created  at the Lucernaire in Paris, direction by David Géry with and in the title roles Olivier Crudellier and Christian Drillaud.
"How do we start?" wonders Caha. Between unusual and absurd, here we are carried away in a misunderstanding in which is to say that faced to the wild imagination of Cahin, Caha opposes a "I would not like to" into Bartleby way. And from this dynamic, both stooges will lead us to incredible pranks where madness and reason fight over the advantage. France Inter
Friday 26th: Castle courtyard in Eymet, 9.30 pm - Incredibly incroyable by and with Bertrand Brossard
A stand-up comedy in English for French and in French for English.
From Nicolas II's murder to mim artist Marceau, from the nautical escapadesof the Queen of England to the pleas of an anxious frog, the artist creates a universal language full of cynicism and dark human whic allows all French and English publics to understand each other and all agree in the common language of laugh.
Finally during these three days, Didier Bezace, honorary president of the Association culturelle de la Vallée du Dropt will please us with a reading ans a meeting, exchange with the public (schedule not set yet).

La Félibrée in Bergerac - 5th, 6th and 7th of July 2013

 La Félibrée in Bergerac - 5th, 6th and 7th of July 2013

We are excited, the Félibrée is coming to Bergerac this year!

The Félibrée (Felibrejada in occitan) is an Occitan folk festival organized annually in a town or village of the Périgord, inspired by Frédéric Mistral and the Félibrige. The first was held in 1903 in Mareuil sur Belle.

This festival takes place every year on the first Sunday of July in a different city of the Périgord. This celebration, which revives the troubadours who once sang the language of Oc in all the courts of Europe, is the day of the language of Oc.

It is an annual extravaganza with several tens of thousands of people from all walks of life coming together to appreciate and safeguarde the Occitan heritage and language .

There are shows, parades of traditional groups with authentic costumes and music instruments and crafts demonstrations.

The town is decorated with spectacular decorations made of paper flowers.

Les Nuits de Chateau Bridoire...

LES NUITS DE BRIDOIRE

Friday and Saturday nights from 13 July to 18 August 2012

Chateau Bridoire is a local Chateau, 15 minutes drive from Maison No. 20 and in our opinion one of the most beautiful and interesting Chateaux in the area.

A unique opportunity to discover the castle of Sleeping Beauty. Open at night, led by costumed characters, crossed by animals from another century, you will discover Bridoire during its thousand years of history.

The candlelit rooms, fireplaces burning, cooking with his scullions ready to help you discover the sweetness of "Wonderland", a classic cuisine of the Perigord.
Illuminated by the moon and the torches, the Games are available to families and friends. Time for a game of chess, you can take in the winter garden a nighttime snack.

The cellars are particularly welcoming to taste the richness of the soil, the vineyards of Bergerac and Monbazillac. During these nights all your senses will be awakened. The grand piano égrènera his notes in the cozy atmosphere of the salons, while in the castle courtyard, the atmosphere of medieval festival in full swing.

Photos of a snowy Eymet....

I thought that I would share some photos of a very snowy Eymet with you. The village looks so pretty covered in snow......

It is as if time has stood still, the village resembles the old post cards of over 100 years ago...

Love the light, everything seems almost pure, the colours pop out at you....

This is one of my favourite shots, it is the garden of a local chateau situated in the heart of the village...

It is for sale and I think that it would would make a fabulous hotel/spa.....

This is the bridge which leads from the Chateau (situated on the left of thisphoto) into the village....the river is currently frozen with most of the ducks and swans taking refuge under the bridge as this is the only part of the river that is not frozen solid!

Looking across the river to the backside of the church....

A very snowy and peaceful village square.....

Entrance to the old chateau where events take place in the summer.....

Exterior of the old chateau..........looking rather solid.

And last but by no means least, a photo of the exterior of Maison No. 20 with lots of lovely pure snow in front of the house....

Amicalement from a very cold and still snowy Eymet, Leeann x
